Brown Thomas & Co., Men’s World
burdifilek was invited once again to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the luxury department store Brown Thomas & Co. in Dublin Ireland. The retail design for men’s tailoring, contemporary, footwear and personal shopping areas resulted in a beautiful, well-considered, unique shopping experience housed within Ireland’s most exciting shopping destination.
Referencing the distinguished heritage of bespoke tailoring and men’s fashion, burdifilek’s interior design concept for the lower-concourse level was to create a Men’s World. Using warm, rich tones, noble finishes and a decidedly modern aesthetic the space was conceived as two complimentary, distinctly masculine zones.
In the tailoring area, embracing the notion of warm modernism, clean sleek lines are complimented by sumptuous textures and rich tones. The handsome, tailored space is rendered in a pallet of Makassar ebony, charcoal brown, smoke grey, and oyster white, together lending a traditional comfort to create a refined elegant backdrop for the merchandise.
A carefully curated collection of custom furnishings, carpeting, millwork and wall finishes combined speak to the well-heeled global nomad. The bespoke sensibility of the design is captured in elements like an undulating solid walnut wall sculpture. The slab of dark walnut was hand carved to mimic the handsome draping of fabric, and creates visual movement throughout.
The contemporary zone showcases the more playful and fashion-forward wares with a panoramic, sculpted layout – creating a seamless, art-gallery atmosphere. The interior design language is a composition of sleek form and refined volumes; dramatic curved walls play with the perception of scale creating a fully engaging retail experience.
The contemporary brands are displayed on a background of pure white walls with espresso brown honed marble flooring punctuated with vibrant, oceanic-blue display tables and polished stainless-steel fixtures. Adding to the progressive architecture, the lighting design in this gallery-like space was carefully considered in order to showcase the product and elevate the customer experience.
