Canadian Museum of Nature Donor and History Panels
A series of graphic panels for the museum’s new Lantern glass tower was designed to recognize the contributions of the museum’s generous donors and to tell the story of the 100-year-old historic building.
The design strategy was to create a ‘graphic forest’ to warm up the space inside the contemporary tower – making it more welcoming and friendlier for visitors. Silhouette cut-outs of branches and lively birds and animals were incorporated into the modular donor plaques to simulate tree trunks. These were layered in front of a silhouetted tree background – printed on solid wood panels – to create a semi, three-dimensional design.
A consistent, although simplified, version of the design is used for the History Panels which flank the donor wall.
